Yellow paper lessons
My dog is at my feet chewing on a yellow wrapper she found somewhere, this is a common trick, she gets something, chews it in front of me, willingly she will give it up, if I give her a snack. The dog has learned, if I want a snack, I will snatch something, the humans don't want me to snatch stuff, the stuff I snatch has no real meaning to me, but the snacks, ah the snacks do. How do I prove this? I reach over my computer monitor, grab ahold of the snack bag, pull one out and hand it to her, she drops the yellow wrapper, picks up the snack and heads over to her bed, sits down and enjoys her snack.
She got what she desired. I only know this because of her behavior, no matter how hard I try I can't get into her head, so I have her behavior plus my assumptions.
Then I wonder, is there a lesson in this?
I am sure there is. Could we be like the dog with a wrapper, looking for a snack? Our jobs could be the wrapper, and the money we receive is the snack that allows us to go out and consume, and we need more and more of it to satisfy our needs, until one day our debt has piled up, our products have piled up, and we are left depressed and discouraged.
Not sure, that may be too dramatic of an interpretation. But I do know that what distinguishes us from the dog is that what we work on has benefits to others, and what we receive can also be used to support others. But we all have a yellow wrapper we are chewing on.
What yellow wrapper are you chewing on?
Here, I made this. My gift to you, for taking the time to read.
