Options Are a Blessing

What do I want to do today? Go see a movie. Go get coffee. Go to the library. Stay home in the air conditioning and read books and watch TV.

It is tempting to complain. My home is too small. It is a mess. I wish I didn't have to budget my money. Then it hits me — having options is a blessing.

I could beat myself up and call it indecision. I could try to find the perfect choice. But for me, the solid reframe is this: options are a blessing.

My wife and I took the dog on a hike this morning. I called a friend to wish him happy birthday. Church tomorrow. Vacation from work this week.

Options are blessings, and it is important for me to remember that, because it reminds me that so many people don't have the options available to me. Those who are unhoused in a heat wave. The unemployed. Those who live in war-torn areas.

I am thankful for my options.

What option have you been calling a problem?

Here, I made this. My gift to you, for taking the time to read.
