Opening Day
Today is Opening Day for Major League Baseball. Technically, it was last night, with Netflix jumping into the baseball pool, but for all intents and purposes, today is Opening Day.
Baseball brings back so many positive memories. For example, as a child at my grandma's house, the TV would always be on. It was either soap operas on ABC — so we went from All My Children to One Life to Live to General Hospital — but from April to September, it was WGN and Cubs baseball. Jack Brickhouse was calling the games when I was very young, until Harry Caray took over and carried me through my formative years.
Now, living in Los Angeles and empowered by technology, I'm able to purchase the MLB plan, and just like that, I can watch the Cubs — as well as many other games. I did go back and forth about purchasing it, because it does come with a cost, but I get more value from the MLB pass than I do from reloading my Starbucks app.
The larger lesson is this: baseball brings me joy, and if I have the resources to add more joy to my life, I need to take advantage of that. It's baseball for me — it may be something else for you — but remember, your body knows what will bring healthy joy into your life. So take advantage of those opportunities.
What is one simple or "small" pleasure that consistently brings you genuine joy, and what has held you back from investing in it more intentionally?
