Adult Zoomies
When my son was a toddler, he would become very active right before bedtime — and the same is true for most toddlers. The term you frequently hear is fighting sleep. Dogs experience something similar called the zoomies, whose formal name is Frenetic Random Activity Periods (FRAPs). The theory is that pups and toddlers get a burst of energy because they don't know how to wind down, and it is actually a sign of being very tired.
I've realized I have a version of the adult zoomies. The day before spring break starts, I get this burst of energy and a sudden desire to start new projects. I find myself singing in the car — and then it hits me: I have the adult zoomies. I am exhausted and don't know how to settle down, or for some strange reason, I don't want to. But the truth is, the zoomies are a signal to slow down, calm down, and rest.
