May the 4th

I wore a new Darth Vader shirt to work today and was the only one celebrating May the 4th. No biggie — it was a bit chilly anyway.

I do know that at the Cubs-Reds game tonight, they are giving away a Grogu bobblehead. Isn’t it interesting how a line from a movie can become so deeply ingrained in our culture?

“May the 4th” was used by the British Parliament when Margaret Thatcher was elected, then tossed around by Star Wars fans for decades. After Disney purchased the franchise, it became official in 2013, and Disney began hosting May the 4th celebrations at the parks.

And if you can’t go to Disney, you can buy a shirt, get some gear, watch the movies, or just go about your business as usual. Either way, you have to acknowledge the impact one creative act can have on society.

What pop culture references do you celebrate?
