When I wake up in the middle of the night, it's usually to think about a challenging situation and how I'm going to work my way through it. My mind apparently believes the best time to solve a problem is when I should be sleeping.
What doesn't wake me up is a reflection on what went well. I don't suddenly open my eyes and think, "You know what? That was a really good cheesesteak."
That's why, every Friday, I think it's important to look back at the good. Sometimes it's a little harder to find, but it's still there.
This week, my glimmers included the Bears winning on Thursday Night Football, trying a new cheesesteak from Monty's Cheesesteak with my coworkers, and my mother-in-law celebrating her 85th birthday. There's also the anticipation of seeing some movies this weekend, the cooler weather, and that view of the mountains after the rain in L.A.
Those mountains are easy to miss until the rain clears the air. Sometimes I think the good in my week is like that, too. I need a moment to see what's been there all along.
Every week has glimmers: things that went well, moments we enjoyed, and things we can look forward to.
They don't always wake us up in the middle of the night. But when we're awake, we can make a little time to look for them.
What's been there all along this week?
Here, I made this. My gift to you, for taking the time to read.
