Say When
A plain bagel with cream cheese, the backyard of Saba Surf Coffee, a gentle breeze, and an Americano with oatmilk and sugar. Almost too much oatmilk.
I got distracted. The barista asked me about my Spiderman shirt, and I forgot to tell the woman pouring the oatmilk when.
I am thankful for the baristas who ask you to say when, as opposed to the ones who pour it in ahead of time.
I have no idea why oatmilk is my choice of milk.
What I do know is that for the first thirty-some years of my life, milk was my favorite drink. I kept it in the fridge. It was my go-to. Milk and chips.
Then one day my body started to rebel, and milk hasn’t been the same since.
Life can be tricky like that. The things we grow up with get replaced by time and circumstance. That is just part of moving through the world and having a human experience.
Which is why it is worth seeking out the simple experiences. And knowing that even when one disappears, another one shows up.
