Restore
When I find myself complaining about my career, my workplace, or my job at the end of a long week, I have a choice. I can keep complaining, or I can recognize that the complaining may be a signal — a signal that I need to rest.
I can also choose to be thankful.
I can be thankful that I have a career. I can be thankful that I have somewhere to go each day. And I can remember that Saturday and Sunday give me time to recharge.
Saturday is a recharge day.
It is tempting to wake up on Saturday and immediately start making plans. I'm going to wash clothes. I'm going grocery shopping. I'm going to tackle my to-do list.
But instead, I can say, "You know what? Let me rest."
Let me watch Premier League football in the morning and college football in the afternoon. Let me look forward to a championship boxing match. Let me go to a movie. The laundry and the grocery shopping can wait until Sunday. I'll attend church, take care of what needs to be done, and enjoy more football.
Resting is not wasting the day. It is how I recharge.
I can even put my phone on the charger and leave it there most of the day, because I really don't need to spend Saturday scrolling. My phone needs to recharge — and so do I.
That is what weekends are for. People need me, and I want to return on Monday fully recharged instead of already dreading the day.
What are you resting from?
