Mother’s Day

It has been 19 years since I was last able to talk with my mother on Mother’s Day. You know, intellectually, that your parents won’t live forever — but when they pass, it still leaves a hole. So now Mother’s Day brings memories of my mom.

There is a presence of sadness in that. But there is also an opportunity to serve others. You can send Mother’s Day wishes to friends and co-workers who are moms. You can hold space for those who are having a hard day — for people who have lost their mothers, for people who long to be moms and it just hasn’t happened yet. And for me, there is the gift of helping my son honor his mom.

We all came from a mom. We all know moms. If your experience with your mom was difficult or painful, we see you and we support you. And if you are out here raising children, you deserve the very best today.

Thank you for being a mom.
