Look back on your week and name something that frustrated you.
This week, I lost my voice. Talking has been difficult, and it still is. When you have things to say and your voice won't cooperate, it gets frustrating pretty quickly.
But I can also look back on this week and find things that went well. And that's what we do on a Friday. We look for our glimmers.
Our bathroom got fixed. We have a brand-new, sparkly vanity, and no more leaks. After the inconvenience of getting everything repaired, being able to use our bathroom again is definitely a glimmer.
I got to see two movies this past weekend. There was football on Saturday and Sunday, which is always fun. I also got to go to Fatty Mart with my son and spend time encouraging him as he applies to college.
These are my glimmers. Things that went well. Things I enjoyed. Moments I want to give a little attention to before moving into another week.
The frustrations are there, but they share space with the glimmers. Losing my voice doesn't erase the enjoyment of those movies, the relief of a repaired bathroom, or the time with my son. All of those things happened in the same week.
Sometimes frustration takes up so much room that we forget what else was there.
So on Fridays, I look back. I name the good things. I let myself enjoy them again for a moment. They deserve some space in my life, and in the story I tell about my week.
And when I give them that space, my frustrations and worries have a little less room to dominate.
I begin to feel a little better.
Friday glimmers.
What glimmer got crowded out of your week?
Here, I made this. My gift to you, for taking the time to read.
