Day Trip

Today my wife and I both had the day off, so we drove up to Ojai.

First stop was Bart’s Books, which they say is the largest outdoor bookstore in the world. I’m taking their word for it. I walked out with a science fiction magazine from 1951 and a biography of Rasputin. Now I have my own copy of a Rasputin bio, so I don’t have to keep borrowing the library’s.

Then the olive oil tasting. That was the new thing. I saw some people doing it on Instagram and said to myself, let me try that.

Fifteen dollars. You get a tray of oils, vinegars, and infused oils, and two pieces of locally made sourdough. Peach. Pomegranate. Garlic. Espresso. I was impressed.

Here’s the tip. Do something new in your city or town, something you’ve never done before, and support a small business while you’re at it.

What have you never tried in the place you already live?

Here, I made this. My gift to you, for taking the time to read.
