Glimmers

What annoyed me this week?

Traffic. Sales emails. People complaining. My dog taking too long to relieve herself. Bills.

These circumstances altered my mood, but they were not the whole story.

The rest of the story lives inside the glimmers — the concrete events, items, and moments that bring joy, happiness, and gratitude.

This week, my glimmers included seeing Dario Argento's 1977 film Suspiria with my movie club at Vidiots, a non-profit video store with its own theater attached.

The last day of summer school, and the slower pace that came with it. That meant mornings at Kaldi Coffee and taking my son to his internship.

A silent reading night with my wife at a local coffee shop, where people spread blankets out on the grass and read.

Books. Movies. Coffee.

These are my glimmers. Parts of daily life that remind me burdens come, but blessings arrive right alongside them.

Take time to pay attention to your glimmers. They don't take away the burdens. They let you live alongside them and keep moving forward.

When your week has been dominated by what annoyed you, what has helped you notice the good that was sitting right beside it?
