Traditions

Firework shows are part of the Fourth of July. As a family, we’ve been to our share of them. But these days, we prefer to avoid the crowds and the traffic that come with going to a fireworks show. Finding parking. Fighting to leave afterward. Getting stuck in a line of taillights. These are not experiences I enjoy — and the show itself isn’t that great of an experience for me anyway.

So instead, we went to the beach at 6:30 am. Plenty of free parking. The beach wasn’t crowded. The coffee shop had no lines. And the ocean and its waves, always beautiful.

What’s one tradition you’ve quietly let go of — and what did you make room for once you did?
