Stopped in your tracks

After work, I stopped at Ross to pick up a few things for my son’s trip to camp.

When I got to the checkout counter, there was a small crowd. A woman had collapsed from a seizure.

The store management called the paramedics. Her family gathered close to comfort her. The rest of us watched with concern.

But business continued.

People kept shopping. Kept checking out. I was on my way out the door as the paramedics arrived.

My hope and prayer is that she’s okay — that she heals.

Still, it’s startling to see something like that play out right in front of you.

We treat ordinary days like they’re guaranteed. They’re not. Hug your people. Say the prayer. Don’t wait.

When was the last time something stopped you in your tracks — and how did you respond?
