Punched in the Mouth
Mike Tyson once said, “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.” If that’s true, then maybe our plans should include getting punched in the mouth.
Think about it—how often do things actually go according to plan? In every superhero movie, the hero starts with a plan. And yes, by the end, the superhero saves the day—but only after facing countless obstacles. The truth is, it’s the obstacles that make the story. We watch for the tension, the thrill, and the inspiration of seeing someone overcome impossible odds.
So, can’t we approach life the same way? Honestly, I’ll admit: I hate the idea of “getting punched in the mouth.” Obstacles and challenges wear me down, and they can be discouraging. But at the same time, I know I have the skills to deal with them. The question I wrestle with is this: can I learn to find joy in the adventure itself—or is that the wrong way to think about it?
What about you—when life throws obstacles in your path, do you see them as part of the adventure, or just something to get through?
