Every Friday, I look back on my week and ask myself what went well. These are my Friday glimmers.
Some weeks, they come easily. Other weeks, my first response is, "Ah, nothing went well."
This was a challenging week. But even when it takes a little time to find the glimmers, it's worth looking.
Last Sunday, I went with my movie group to see I Play Rocky. It was an inspirational movie, and afterward, I listened to the Rocky soundtrack. It brought back my own memories of watching the movies. Rocky has always been one of my favorite movie series, and it felt good to revisit that music and those memories.
Then there was Halloween.
I love dressing up for Halloween, and this year I was Britney Spears from the "…Baby One More Time" video. I loved putting on the makeup, getting into the costume, and seeing everybody's reactions when I walked in.
Our school's Halloween carnival is always a fun day. The costumes, the games, the early education students coming through to trick-or-treat: all of it brings some joy into the school day. And yes, I enjoy being part of that excitement.
I also went to Spirit Halloween with my son to buy his costume. He's older now, so it's different from when he was a little kid. But walking through the store together and picking out a costume was still fun. That counts, too.
So, yes, it was a challenging week. It was also a week with a movie, some music, a costume that made people smile, and a trip to the Halloween store with my son.
When I first looked back, the challenges were easier to remember. I had to give the good moments a little more time.
There are glimmers. Sometimes they're harder to find, but they're still worth looking for.
