Halloween

Today is Halloween! I’ve grown to love it more and more as I get older. When my son was little, it was so much fun—years of trick-or-treating with a group of family friends, and afterward we’d go to someone’s house, watch It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, and eat pizza.

Now my son’s in high school, so we don’t trick-or-treat anymore. But since I’m a school leader, I still dress up. We go all out for Halloween. Our preschool does a trick-or-treat parade, then we have a carnival. I had a game called “Devil Bird Toss”—basically you toss two birds into a red bucket. I went to Dollar Tree too late this year and Halloween stuff was pretty much gone, but there were tons of Christmas ornaments, so I found some red birds and called them devil birds. 😆

Also, dressing up is my jam. This year I went as Elphaba from Wicked and did my own makeup. We need days like Halloween where we can have fun, be generous, and build community.
