Glimmers
It’s Friday, and that means it’s time for Friday Glimmers.
Friday Glimmers are a chance to look back on the week and find the moments that brought us joy in the middle of everything else. Every week comes with frustrations, disappointments, unexpected challenges, and things that drain our energy. Those moments are real. But so are the glimmers.
The interesting thing about glimmers is that they often require intention. They are easy to overlook because they are usually smaller than the problems demanding our attention. Taking a few minutes to reflect helps us remember that the week contained more than stress and obligations.
Looking back on this week, I found quite a few.
One glimmer was traveling to Las Vegas with my wife to attend the BTS concert at Allegiant Stadium. My wife is full blown Army, and I find myself slowly being converted.
Another glimmer was making it home safely after the trip. Sometimes the simple things deserve gratitude too.
A third glimmer was having a short work week. As the school year winds down, having a little extra breathing room felt like a gift.
A fourth glimmer is looking forward to the upcoming senior luncheon and celebrating students as they reach an important milestone.
A fifth glimmer was my son having a job interview.
Another glimmer was the daily morning walks with my dog. Those quiet moments before the day begins continue to be one of my favorite parts of the day.
There was also some excellent barbecue from Boss Daddy’s in Las Vegas. It was not fast food! It was nice to watch boxing, and listen to a good DJ.
And speaking of favorite things, making my own at-home latte has become a small daily ritual that I genuinely enjoy.
One more glimmer was getting to see The Mandalorian and Grogu.
When I look back on the week, I realize that none of these moments were life-changing. They were simply good moments. But when you put enough good moments together, they tell a different story than the one stress tries to tell.
So today, take a few minutes and find your glimmers. Write them down. Share them with someone. Hold on to them for a little while.
You may discover that your week contained more joy than you realized.
What was one glimmer from your week that made you smile?
