Friday Glimmers
Each week, we face difficult situations. Sometimes they’re crises. Sometimes they’re problems. Sometimes they’re just things that annoy the heck out of us.
And those things take up a lot of our thinking time.
If we’re not careful, they can diminish the joy and happiness we experienced during the exact same week.
But there’s a flip side.
There are also things that went well. Moments we enjoyed. Things we accomplished. Experiences that, when we stop and remember them, can bring some of that happiness and joy right back.
Those are glimmers.
So each Friday, I take some time to look back at the glimmers—the things that went well in my life.
This week, I had quite a few.
I got to go to a college application workshop at UCLA with my son.
I had a great church service with my family.
My presentation on AI at our company retreat went well.
Our Minute-to-Win-It games with the staff were a success.
Our first three days of staff training went very well.
We had a great first day of school when our students came back.
And I hired two new aides who both want to become teachers in the future. There’s something exciting about bringing people into education who see this work as part of their future.
Were there difficult things this week?
Of course.
There always are.
But those things don’t get to tell the whole story.
So today, go back through your week and look for your glimmers.
They’re there.
Something went well.
Something made you smile.
Something worked.
Something reminded you that even in a difficult week, there was still some good.
What went well this week that you’ve already stopped thinking about?
Here, I made this. My gift to you, for taking the time to read.
Images are from my imagination, generated by AI. Writing is all me.
